| Q&A - Jon Hamm (Don Draper) Answers Your Questions |
[09 Nov 2009|02:10pm] |
With Season 3 now at an end, Jon Hamm, the man behind Don Draper, discusses how he approaches his character, what it was like confessing to Betty, and what other part on the show he'd love to play.

Q: How do you feel about Don as an actor and do you feel differently about him as a viewer? A: It's hard for me to separate the two, because I'm obviously much closer to the character than most of the viewers. And also I'm very protective of the character. A lot of people, especially this season, are very frustrated and angry with Don and his choices and his decisions. But something to understand about the guy is he's significantly damaged. This is a guy that is not well-equipped for being emotionally available, or being mature or giving in a relationship. So it's a challenge to make him sympathetic because he does make so many difficult decisions. But again, they are motivated by how the guy was raised. I do think he loves his family very much. I think he's hard time expressing -- or at least maintaining -- that and still be true to himself. It's a difficult line to walk. What I enjoy about him as an actor is walking that line. And that's what makes it difficult to watch as a viewer. You're by turns transfixed and repulsed by this guy.

| Yep,end of world. Where are Sam and Dean to fix this shit? |
[09 Nov 2009|07:34am] |

"Twilight" movies inspire vampire stampede"'Twilight' here! We got your red hot 'Twilight' angle heah!" You can almost hear the refrain like there's a carnival barker stalking the halls of the Santa Monica hotel hosting the annual American Film Market, where independent producers from around the world seek financing and distribution deals. With "Twilight" fever regripping the nation -- Chapter 2, "New Moon," rises in theaters November 20 -- many of the projects on display at the trade show are spinning any "Twilight" connection they can find to hawk their wares. London-based Protagonist Pictures is in the market with an erotic period drama, drawn from a Guy De Maupassant short story, titled "Bel Ami." It's a niche project with limited appeal but for the fact that the lead character of a young Parisian playboy will be incarnated by Edward Cullen himself of "Twilight" fame, Robert Pattinson. In other offerings, the content speaks for itself. "Blood: A Butcher's Tale," from Horizon Motion Pictures, trots out vampires as the romantic and physical rivals of the forlorn butcher of the title. Toothin Theatre's "The Death of Alice Blue" puts a comely intern in the hands of an advertising company run by -- yep -- bloodsuckers (no surprise there). Amadeus Pictures is hawking "Vampiro," a Mexican-American/East L.A. take on vampire gangs and sexy vampiras. "Dark Moon Rising," from New Films International, pushes the werewolf angle (and a title echo) with the tale of a small-town girl falling in love with a drifter who has a hairy past. On the hardcore end of the spectrum is "Stake Land," from Dark Sky Films, which includes a nun played by Kelly McGillis trying to survive in a world overrun by vampires. And Eleven Arts has the enviable mission of selling "Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl," a Japanese offering about some sort of unfortunate contretemps between Vampire Girl and Frankenstein Girl. In a non-AFM title, Pattinson's "Twilight" co-star Jackson Rathbone, who plays the veggie vampire Jasper Hale, is starring in and co-producing "Girlfriend," from Wayne/Lauren Film. In the film, which just wrapped, Rathbone plays the volatile ex-boyfriend of a small-town single mother pursued by a young man with Down Syndrome. Bottom line: There's plenty for buyers to sink their teeth into.

| Alex Borstein impersonates Marlee Matlin and "sings" Poker Face |
[09 Nov 2009|05:08am] |
On Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show, Seth MacFarlane and Alex Borstein made fun of Marlee Matlin (and all deaf people) by saying Matlin was going to release an album featuring a collection of pop hits. Alex then proceeds to sing "Poker Face" by Lady GaGa while impersonating Matlin.
Ngl, I was pretty offended (through my constant giggling) until Marlee came out towards the end and made fun of Alex.

| Does anyone miss Gemma Ward? |
[09 Nov 2009|05:56pm] |
Perth supermodel Gemma Ward has been attacked on an international fashion website for gaining weight - as rumours grow she's given up the catwalk.
Paparazzi photographs have emerged of her sporting a set of new curves.
She was snapped wearing a leopard-print jacket, shorts and biker boots.
Celebrating her 22nd birthday this week, Ward was photographed alongside close friend and Sports Illustrated swimwear model Jessica Gomes.
The pictures were quickly posted by international fashion blogger Bryan Boy and reader comments varied from overwhelming support to vicious attacks on her new shape.
A spokeswoman for modelling agency Viviens said Ward, who is based in New York, had no immediate plans to return to the industry.
"Gemma hasn't committed to returning to modelling any time soon,'' she said, adding that Ward had the agency's full support.
One poster said: ``Oh gosh, yeah, she has put on a lot of weight and would be great as a plus-sized model.''
Other posts were more supportive saying: ``Oh, come on, people! She's not plus-sized! How are Lara Stone and Gemma Ward considered ``big''? Gorgeous girl!''
And: ``Yes, she's bigger than before, but she still has that face, which is why I found her so fascinating in the first place. Whether she loses weight or not, I'd love to see her model again.''
While her look is a noticeable change from the bony frame that wowed international catwalks between 2004 and 2007, it's also welcome relief to the distressed-looking Ward who was photographed on a beach at Byron Bay, New South Wales, last year.
The model had copped cruel barbs about her weight gain after Heath Ledger's death from a prescription- drug overdose.
They were close friends, and rumoured lovers.
While Ward is no doubt still coming to grips with the loss, speculation on whether she will return to the catwalk is rife.
In 2008, reports circulated that the millionaire model was set to retire to focus on her acting career.
In a rare public statement Ward had said: ``I was surprised to wake up this morning and read news of my own retirement. While I am taking some time off to rest and enjoy the company of friends and family, I am still very much a (excited and enthusiastic) working model and actress. I'm only 20, for God's sakes.''
If she were to hit the runway again, it would be the comeback of all comebacks, but industry sources suggest that Ward's modelling days are behind her.
Her Australian agency Vivien's was reluctant to comment.
A statement from the agency said ``Gemma hasn't committed to returning to modelling at any time soon'', but that she had the agency's full support.

Of course it's our God-given right to jaywalk!
It's what distinguishes us from almost every other city in the world.
Do you see the cops giving a freakin' cow a ticket for being in the way in India?
No.
And you don't give a New Yorker a jaywalking ticket either.
This is our way of life. We're the pedestrian city of the United States.

| Richard Kelly Talks NASA, Free Will and the Hutts |
[08 Nov 2009|09:39pm] |

As the writer/filmmaker responsible for the densely-detailed and intense films Donnie Darko and Southland Tales, Richard Kelly returns with another mind-bending sci-fi tale called The Box.
StarWars.com caught up with Kelly after a recent visit to Skywalker Ranch and ILM, to chat with him about his love for Star Wars, NASA's approval of The Box and why Jabba the Hutt should be the next Tony Soprano.
----------------
In addition to expanding on Richard Matheson's short story "Button, Button" for the plot, you also use a lot of your own parents' background stories in The Box, especially with your father's work at NASA. Why did you want the film to reflect some of your own family's history?
It just felt like the right thing to do. This felt like the kind of film I think they would appreciate. They love Alfred Hitchcock. When I found the solution to this story, and linking to my dad's work at NASA, it all came together. It felt like a way to kind of pay tribute to them and to their experiences. And that they would get a kick out of seeing elements of who they are portrayed by Cameron Diaz and James Marsden. Obviously, they're not playing my parents but it's an interpretation of them.
You don't get that many opportunities in life to try to do something cool like that for your parents. This felt like the moment to do it.
How did NASA feel about you not only using them as a story component, but actually shooting some footage there as well?
All the NASA stuff at Langley in the film was shot at NASA's Langley Research Center. It took about a year to get full cooperation from NASA and NASA headquarters and everyone at Langley. They all read the script and signed off on it. We signed a Space Act Agreement and it was a big deal.
No one has ever photographed that hangar before; no one has ever been inside that wind tunnel. There are these legendary buildings over at Langley that have never been shown before on film so it was really kind of setting a new precedent to get access to all these facilities.
My dad's work with NASA probably had a lot to do with granting me permission, and that the film might shed some light on the Viking program which was a very significant event. It's not the most well-known space mission, however anyone you talk with at NASA always go back to Viking as one of the greatest achievements in the history of space exploration. Putting a robot on Mars and sending photographs back was a profound accomplishment.
If you go online to the website YouAreTheExperiment.com you can see some of these prequel videos I put together. The first one incorporates a lot of real footage of the real scientists on the day -- June 20, 1976 -- responding and reacting to photographs being transmitted back.

| ~OH MAH GUUUUDNESS~ |
[09 Nov 2009|12:27am] |

Variety reports that Screen Gems has acquired "Sheneneh and Wanda," a comic vehicle for Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence to star in. The duo would play female characters they developed during their stand up comedy days in the caper film.
Foxx will write the script and he and Martin will produce together through Foxx's Foxxhole and Lawrence's Runteldat production companies.
The project originated as a parody of a movie trailer for a film called "Skank Robbers," which Foxx and Lawrence made for the BET Awards. The reaction was strong enough that the duo decided to turn the concept into a real film.
In the comedy, Sheneneh and Wanda are modern day independent women trying to make it on their own, one bank robbery at a time.

LOL FOREVER if this really happens, even though I will watch the hell out of it. Here's the "Skank Robbers" parody for those who haven't seen it.
